The Center for Disease Control found the highest levels is used in a number of scented products such as soap, lotion and perfume. What is Lye?
The chemical name for lye is sodium hydroxide. Lye is used to make solid soap. When mixed with other ingredients a chemical reaction takes place known as saponification. After the soap cures, about 6 weeks, and the saponification process is complete there is no lye left in the soap. What you are left with is a high quality gentle cleansing bar.
Sodium Lactate is a liquid salt that is naturally found in corn and beets. It is used in soap making to help produce a harder bar of soap that lasts longer.
