Sulfate and Phthalate Free
Our products are sulfate and phthalate free. What does that mean? Sulfate is a powerful detergent that cuts grease and makes soap and shampoo foamy. Sulfates have been proven to cause skin and scalp irritation. Phthalates are a class of chemicals found in plastic, vinyl, insecticides, adhesives, car care products and personal care products. The Center for Disease Control found the highest levels is used in a number of scented products such as soap, lotion and perfume. According to the Environmental Protection Agency, phthalate has been classified as a "probable human carcinogen." In 1986 the United States began to put regulations in place for the use phthalates.
What is Lye?
The chemical name for lye is sodium hydroxide. Lye is used to make solid soap. When mixed with other ingredients a chemical reaction takes place known as saponification. After the soap cures, about 6 weeks, and the saponification process is complete there is no lye left in the soap. What you are left with is a high quality gentle cleansing bar.
Sodium Lactate
Sodium Lactate is a liquid salt that is naturally found in corn and beets. It is used in soap making to help produce a harder bar of soap that lasts longer.
