Fragrance Oils vs. Essential Oils - What's the Difference?
We use two types of oils to make our soap smell good: essential oils and fragrance oils.
Essential Oils
Essential oils come from an all-natural, plant based material, such as: leaves, bark, peels, twigs and flowers. They are limited, due to the fact that the plant must produce oil in order to be made into essential oil. For example, Cherries produce great juice, but no oil. Therefore, there is no cherry essential oil. Some essential oils are also extremely expensive. For example, 1/8 ounce of pure rose essential oil costs about $130.00! Much too expensive to use in soap. Even though they are all natural, essential oils must be used with care. Clove and cinnamon are actually skin irritants, so we never use them. Some essential oils should not be used by pregnant women or individuals with high blood pressure. If you have questions about using essential oils, please consult your health care professional.
Essential oils that we currently use in either our soap or bath salts are: Tea Tree, Lavender, Spearmint, Rosemary, Anise, Orange, Geranium, Grapefruit and Eucalyptus.

Fragrance Oils
Fragrance oils are created by fragrance companies and are blends of natural and synthetic oils. Fragrance oils are not considered to be natural. There is a wider selection of choices with fragrance oils. For example, chocolate, spiced mahogany and baby powder are all great soaps, which we carry, but there is no essential oil produced for these scents. Most fragrance oils are much more affordable than essential oils. The fragrance oils which we use are all skin safe and are phthalate free.
